Mickevičius (feminine: Mickevičienė [married] or Mickevičiūtė [unmarried]) is a Lithuanian male surname of medieval East Slavic origin.

The surname is a patronymic formation derived from the Old Ruthenian Мицъкевичъ (Micʹkevič). This official administrative form developed from Мицко (Micko)—a hypocoristic (diminutive) variant of the Christian given name Дмитрій (Dmitrij, corresponding to Demetrius)—which also entered modern Lithuanian naming structures directly as the surname Mickus.[1]
